W14 Part A/B Reading of Tales of the City
reading notes are from the final third of Tales of the City
- Wagnerian fog, I don’t know what that means but sounds ominous.
- Carson Callas is super creepy, and Maupin just keeps adding on with his demeanor and looks.
- DeDe is really strong for dealing with Beauchamp, and staying with him to maintain family.
- The way he says no to wanting a child is really hurtful to DeDe, she really deserves better
- Mary Ann is always like the naive rural girls when she sees city type things.
- Writing a poem about Norman already, and they’re barely together. She moved too fast.
- D’orothea and Mona seems like a relationship that’s just there because they knew no one else.
- Mona should go back to living with Micheal, they’re two peas in a pod.
- Back to Jon, fancy gay doctor, and now he’s at a gay party, but super fancy.
- “Where are the twinks, anyways?” I guess men are objectifying someone, even when gay.
- They’re asking him about Michael, and he seems a little hung up on it.
- Mary Ann and Norman at the art show, then going on a coastal walk, hmm,
- Norman is such a downer, getting complemented and adored, and he rejects it.
- D’orothea’s reaction to her parents, going stone cold, is suspicious.
- Mona really wants to meet her friends and family though, and progress their relationship forward.
- Brian’s quote is strong “I get the feeling that the New Morality is over” it kind of sums up the events of the story up to then and coming up too.
- Back to Jon, and he’s on the way to the gay tub area, the same one where he met Michael.
- Kind of true about the time how he reflects that a gay doctor is strange then, and a gay OB/GYN even more so. It talks about the pseudo acceptance in the city.
- What a twist... the man Jon hooks up with and meets at the tub... Beauchamp. First he cheats with a girl, now with a guy. Can’t give poor DeDe a break. And he exchanged numbers.
- Back to DeDe, and she notes how Beauchamp returned home at 4am, she knows somethings up.
- Back to talking with Binky about the baby, and what she plans to do, I worry for her.
- Oh she called the doctor back and is keeping the baby... but the doctor is Dr. Fielding.... that’s Jon. Only OB/GYN named Fielding so far in the book.
- And Beauchamp has the gall to call him flirtatiously at lunch looking for a hook up. Shame shame.
- It’s almost Christmas, and Mrs.Madrigal is having an apartment Christmas party, seems like that’ll be interesting.
- I guess she’ll be going to see and hang out with Michael and the others
- Mona is so sneaky, trying to get in contact with D’orothea’s parents behind her back!
- And she lied to her about where she’s going to go meet up with D’or’s dad.
- Her dad was not who she expected, a white man.
