W17 Part B Reading The Luck of the Roaring Camp
Reading notes are from “The Luck of the Roaring Camp” by Francis Bret Harte
- Looking at notes of others, I wanted to read this one but I didn’t get to until now, so exciting.
- Something exciting to get everyone’s attention because a fight wouldn’t, sounds like a commotion
- The repetition of everyone saying Cherokee Sal’s name is very rumore-esque
- The only woman of the camp sounds stressful and worrisome
- Isolation really is a terrible depressing curse.
- Everyone sympathizing her at the moment is very unlike them it seems.
- The novelity of a birth for the first time is something unforgettable
- The men pushing each other to go help is silly, yet nice.
- The men being all in the camp since they’re all outcasts, ruffians, and hooligans makes it a bit different for them to witness and coo over a birth
- Taking bets on the birth and how to would happen is just cruel though, I guess you can’t fix a ruffian completely.
- Everyone rising, but Cherokee sal sinking... sad but excitement
- Them worrying about the fate of the child without her shows they have some compassion.
- The men all commenting on the baby and giving contributions is a sight to see.
- He got quite a bit of gifts for the baby,
- So cute that he’s embarrassed that the baby held his finger.
- A discussion on the infant, knowing there’s no women near there at all to take it in is stressful. Especially knowing other camps would mishandle it
- The rejection of a nurse, sounds like a protection torwards her more so.
- It’s good the child thrived despite a not so great environment
- Giving him random nicknames and never a real name,
- Or thing
- Tommy Luck, such a strong name
- Christening the baby is really respectful of the men to do for who they are.
- And also revamping the cabin for him to live in and thrive is too.
- The change of the behavior to make sure the child was raised in a good environment says a lot about these men.
- It sounds like the camp has prospered in its appearance since Luck was borne just for him too
- The rise in claims is nature’s way of repaying them for the good they had done for the camp
- Improving the camp more in their prosperity instead of pocketing for themselves is very kind to Luck,
- Oh no,,, he died wow that’s so sad,.,
