W13 Readings: Tales of the City
Notes are from Tales of the City by Armistead Maupin, second 1/3 of the book.
- There was an attempt earlier by DeDe to sleep with Splinter, who is also a married man and now she’s with her husband meeting up with Splinter and Oona, drama time.
- Oona putting on that fake smile.
- Oh, he didn’t tell her, she believes the grocery store boy story DeDe made up.
- High society people in here have such a frazzled feel of them
- Samoans.. matching Samoans, that just sounds awful to say someone has
- Drinking in the bathroom, crying over a singer missing, what a life.
- Scrambled eggs doesn’t really sound like a great party dish...
- Michael is such a man slut, sleeping around with others but somehow wanting to commit to Jon, he needs to make up his mind.
- A bean sprout salad sounds yummy.
- “Radical chic” and being lgbt friendly for the trend, sounds early San Franciscan.
- Meeting the singers husband at the gay tubs, and he carries around a cassette of her singing. That’s weird.
- Mary Ann gets attached really easy, Beauchamp is a married man, he doesn’t owe you anything
- I’m not sure what poulet Tolliver is, besides a type of chicken dish.
- Michael is a good friend to his friends, and has a sharp memory too.
- Oh, Mary Ann, wanting to move home after one rejection, pathetic.
- Michael tells it like it is, it’s really cause she got dumped.
- How convenient that her mom called at this type, and now it’s awkward cause Michael answered.
- Her poor mom is confused and worried sick.
- It would be strange to go to an address someone gives you and it’s a big Victorian house
- Oh, it’s an old phone directory center, for people looking for advice or help.
- Vincent cut his finger off... for the rush of it...
- Jon has a monkey, so weird.
- It was his dream pet, this just gets weirder.
- And he took it out everywhere in the city! And they had jealousy issues with who it liked. Jeez.
- Edgar and Anna are such an old soul couple. They’re very chill and calm compared to the others.
- DeDe gained a lot of weight, I wonder what happened...it hasn’t even been that long.
- She put together Mary Ann’s and Beauchamp’s little trip to Mendocino.
- Binky’s letter to DeDe sounds like an advertisement for jumpers and foster grants.
- Going to the bus station dressed as Pan is quite the strange thing to do,
- The opera’s coming up, it’s going to be a big meet up event.
- A little coke before the show, how elegant.
- Strange that Mary Ann feels compelled to check Vincent for missing extremities now.
- Oh, his wife is all the way in Israel, serving the army, that’s sad.
- Mrs.Madrigal is getting in right on Mona’s troubles with men and missing her partner in crime.
- Coffee as a cheer up late at night, but they get there and order wine, okay then.
- It’s the move in anniversary for Mona, such a fine thing to remember.
- A phone caller at the crisis center, and he’s a creepy dude angry it isn’t another girl. Typical.
- And Rebecca is gone from an OD okay then,
I really like how for your notes you bullet point your thoughts and interesting parts of the passage. I think a great thing to add is perhaps page numbers so you can look back at your notes for reference and draw on these for supporting evidence in upcoming analysis and project submissions. While you may know what your notes mean, I'm a little lost. In a few weeks YOU may not even remember what you were talking about, so write those page numbers down! I swear it will help!
