Reading W9 Part B Fitzgerald
Reading notes are from “The Love of the Last Tycoon” by Fitzgerald, pgs.554-564
- I didn’t know that Fitzgerald tried to be a screenwriter, interesting history bit.
- Pin games, pinball?
- Writing about a studio while in Hollywood himself, that’s an interesting point of view there.
- The singer repeating the same lines feels foreboding.
- There’s something weird about the secretaries being passionate capitalists, when they’ve never been successful, and never will themselves.
- Father sounds a little intimidating, that mob boss aura?
- That’s an intense description for the earthquake at Long Beach, hotels going In The water! Either things were not earthquake proofed yet, or that it caused landslides.
- Oh a secret safe behind a frame, but will we ever know what’s inside? Probably not.
- The city is flooding and electrical lines down, that sounds like a disaster waiting to happen!
- Fairyland, I’m not sure if this is an allusion to something.
- Women getting washed away, but just letting them go by, so harsh.
- Robby isnt really a great person.
- I wonder how old Stahr is since he has a deceased wife, and seems a bit like a strong silent type too.
- It sounds like Father owns all this filming stuff, but doesn’t have a clue about it... sounds like a lot of managers today in other companies.
- Golden Age of Hollywood is perhaps the golden age in mention?
- No cameraman, no movie.
- That’s funny that no one told the guy his fly was open for a whole photo shoot, quite unfortunate.
- Stahr has the customer service smile it sounds like, or he’s just crazy charismatic.
- Boxely seems to get upset quite easily. The stubborn angry director.
- I’m not sure what the point of the nickle is either.
