W4: “Old Monterey” by Stoddard, Reading Part B
Reading notes are for “Old Monterey” by Stoddard, pg.226-227.
- This poem already looks very descriptive and has a lull to it in appearance, almost appears like a lullaby.
- Highways, must of been travellable easy along the coast and big sur and the like. It might of been a getaway for the people to ride along these.
- The sea passage feels like you’re looking right off the Monterey coast, it has that feeling similar to what Stoddard tries to evoke.
- I wonder what those troops must of looked like then.
- Treasures must be referring to the gold hunt.
- The description of the waves crashing again and just watching the seagulls is very relaxing imagery to me.
- Must be still relatively healthy ocean if he can spot the starfish and abalone, must of been easy pickings for a scavenging fisherman!
- A skeleton of a whale must be quite a sight to behold, a bit creepy and aweing at the same time.
- Watching the ocean sunset and experiencing it like Stoddard describes is something that extra special about being in California.
