Reading Week 3 Part B- “Pablo Tac”
Reading Notes are from “Our Songs and Dances,” by Pablo Tac pg 103-107.
- I wonder what the quechlam stones appear like that make them so notable.
- A sickness killing so many people was probably smallpox from the Spanish.
- Alcaldes sounds like “accolade” and we probably derived it from there. They probably were appointed the higher position, similar to how you get knighted when you earn an accolade.
- Crying out missionaries word, the Spanish quest to spread Catholicism.
- Native Americans of California do seem to enjoy dancing a lot, I wonder if any of that tradition is viewable in today?
- Interesting that you require the elder’s permission to dance, but also that the elder will make sure everyone learns it perfectly, it must mean the dance was sacred.
- Another tribe in which a feather headband was used, I wonder how prominent theirs was and who earned the right to wear it.
- Red large snakes in California, that do not bite, I’m not sure what species this might be, friendly snakes I know of here are smaller.
- Dancing until told to stop is really intense!
- Dancing for three hours! Now that’s really crazy, I can’t imagine doing that myself.
- The ball game sounds like a type of hockey perhaps.
- It’s good that women were allowed to play this game as well.
- Things got really intense with the two groups, and then the Spanish just appear, very surprising.
