W2: About the House Girl Part B
Reading notes are on “About the House Girl” by Karok. Pg40-50
- Interesting that Patapir only lives with his parents and doesn’t know very many others. Sounding as coming from a tribe, it seems like he would be able to have a wife by manhood.
- I wonder why Ifapi is very shy and timid. I get a feeling of traumatic experience
- Does Patapir’s family trade with or do they do more with the Rekwoi village?
- Patapir being shy around the two women makes him very relatable to many young teenagers, trying to get their first dates. Shy but curious and willing.
- The intrigue of Ifapi and her aunt is quite strong on Patapir, since he was able to leave despite all the positive attention he received.
- The women seem a bit peeved at peoples interest in Ifapi aunt’s house.
- The two women are very mischievous, maybe they will teach Patapir a lesson?
- “Women never dance in the Life Renewing Dance, but the leader is served by one woman...” ( Pg 44) He figured out why Ifapi is the way she is, as well as we in the audience realize her significance.
- Pg 46- Oh no he’s kidnapping her now, way too interested in her.
- They moved to marriage so fast, he just saw her like the first time maybe two days ago. Well, love at first sight I guess?
- I wonder how they choose who will replace her as the dancer and server at the event since there is specific requirements?
- The women seem annoyed that they weren’t chosen, it makes it feel like the ugly stepsister contrast, very Cinderella esque.
- But is she still an about the House Girl, but with children now?
good job, Michelle! I like how you listed all your questions, and also general comments you wanted to make about the story and the characters.
