Growth Mindset

I see myself as part of the growth mindset spectrum today. A few years ago however, I never would of been that way. I was very stuck in my ways and would give up like mentioned when given a challenge since I was so used to just being able to coast by. After having to go through several failures, retakes, redos, and more though, I’m much more malleable and willing to learn. This goes for not just school too, I’ve tried to be much more open in hobbies, sports, and social life, and it has improved myself a lot.

With being in school a bit longer than probably most people who are taking this class, I’ve e had a lot to learn about myself. I’m not “smart” and that’s not why I get good grades. I learned that effort and hard work gets those grades I so desired when I first met challenges, and now I can get. When I approach learning new things, I don’t just once look it over anymore and call it good. I review and revise and approach in more ways so that I can throughly know the material.

I’m not sure if I’ll be interested in more of the growth mindset, as I feel like it’s already something I had to learn as a lesson on my own. However, I do feel it is very good for people who are new to the college life, as it’s often a rude awakening for many people.

This semester I’m taking much more history/English than typical for myself, so I’m hoping I learn lots of interesting tidbits I can share with friends and family. I’m not particularly excited or scared of any class, right now it is. That’ll be a different story in pharmacy school!

  1. Hi Michelle,
I really enjoyed reading your thoughts on growth mindset, because it is very similar to my own experiences on the subject. When I was younger, I also just coasted by and relied on my natural abilities, never really interested in doing things that I was not good at and would challenge me. I agree that college is often a rude awakening for people with this kind of mindset, and it definitely was for me because I quickly had to learn that I would have to put in a lot of hard work in subjects that were not easy. I too, have learned to apply this kind of attitude toward many different aspects of my life and I actually enjoy doing things that are difficult to me now. Thank for sharing your thoughts!
